The White House has begun searching for a new defense secretary to replace Pete Hegseth, according to a Monday report by NPR. The White House subsequently denied the report.
The development follows reports that Hegseth shared additional military strike plans targeting the Houthis in Yemen within Signal group chats that included members of his own family; the second such incident in which sensitive information was discussed or shared with government outsiders. Several weeks ago, Hegseth and others accidentally included the Editor of the Atlantic in a Signal group chat that contained discussions of strikes against the Houthi terrorists.
In an opinion piece published in Politico over the weekend, former Defense Department spokesman John Ullyot wrote that Hegseth likely would not remain in the Pentagon for very long.
