NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams will announce her bid to unseat Mayor Eric Adams a Friday, after being encouraged by high-ranking Democrats, sources tell Belaaz.
Rumors of her running to replace Adams have been circulating recently, as the Mayor, who is not related to the Speaker, has been mired in accusations of accommodating the Trump administration in exchange for having his corruption charges dropped, while NY Gov. Kathy Hochul seriously considered firing him – an exercise of an authority never before used in the state’s history. The Governor ultimately decided not to do so for the time being.
Jeff Coltin of Politico wrote on social media Wednesday that “Adrienne Adams was making calls to discuss a mayoral run today and ‘she’s seriously considering.’
Coltin also reported that NY Attorney General Letitia James is pushing the Speaker to run, along with other Democratic political leaders.
