As previously reported, President-elect Donald Trump will extend invites to leading Rabbonim, including the Satmar Rebbe, Rav Ahron Teitelbaum and Gerer Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon Rav Shaul Alter, to thank them for their support and blessings during the election.
Trump’s campaign team explained that the president believes the blessing from these rabbis played a key role in his comeback victory. Therefore, Trump is inviting them for a meeting also seeking a special inaugural blessing as he begins his presidency. As you may recall, Reb Shaul endorsed Trump in an exclusive statement to Belaaz prior to the election.
Belaaz has learned that the president-elect’s team is coordinating with the rabbis’ representatives ahead of the meeting, with the final date to be set after his official inauguration. However, There’s talks that the meeting is possibly expected to take place in the third week of February, a source involved in the planning has revealed to Belaaz.
Belaaz has also learned that Reb Shaul alter and the Satmar Rebbe will each be accompanied to the Trump meeting by only one assistant (Gabai). The meeting is also expected to include Yehuda Kaploun, a key Trump ally and adviser who helped connect Jewish communities in the U.S. to support Trump and the Republican Party during the election campaign.
It is still unclear whether the Rabanim will meet with President Trump together or separately, but coordination is already underway between the Rabbis to discuss important issues related to Jewish communities in the U.S.
Sources familiar with the matter tell Belaaz that in recent weeks, one of the main topics discussed among the Gabaim was the educational challenges affecting the Jewish community in New York
Belaaz has also learned that the Satmar Rebbe has asked to meet with Reb Shaul Alter immediately upon his arrival in the U.S., in order to coordinate the requests that will be presented to the president. This will be their first time meeting.
