A critical server system outage has disrupted operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport Sunday, afternoon causing significant delays.

The technical failure is confirmed to have affected Terminal 4, but some on social media are claiming that the entire airport server is down. While the airport has not yet released a detailed analysis of the root cause, airlines have confirmed the outage directly to frustrated passengers.

Etihad Airways acknowledged the issue in a statement to customers.
“There is system outage in JFK T4 that is affecting the entire terminal,” the airline stated. “The airport teams are working on this and will assist you as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience, feel free to reach us via DM as well. Thanks.”

Reports of the outage began circulating on X shortly before noon, with travelers posting real-time updates from stagnant check-in lines.

Publicly available airport data shows takeoffs and landings, indicating that the server issue appears limited to check-ins.

User Claudia Hernandez (@pachitaher) shared the scene from the ground, writing simply: “JFK airport system servers down. Everyone waiting in the line.”

Others questioned the source of the technical failure. Traveler Dhruv Kothari (@dhruvkothari_) posted a similar update just minutes prior, speculating on potential causes for the blackout.
“JFK airport system servers down,” Kothari wrote. “AWS or Crowdstrike down again? Everyone waiting in the line.”

This is a developing story.
