The Shin Bet said on Monday that it conducted a covert capture operation roughly a month ago in southern Gaza City, during which an Islamic Jihad terrorist was taken for interrogation. The terrorist was suspected of having knowledge about the burial location of Ran Gvili Hy’d, whose body was recovered and identified earlier Monday.
According to the Shin Bet, the terrorist had been involved in military activity against IDF forces during the war. During questioning, he admitted to playing a role in transferring Ran’s body between several locations and provided details about others who were involved and who also knew where the body was buried.
Information obtained from the interrogation produced intelligence that strengthened the assessment that Ran’s burial site was located in the Al Batash cemetery in the northern Gaza Strip.
In light of this intelligence, Israeli forces launched a wide-ranging operation at the cemetery in recent days. The operation concluded with the identification of Ran’s body and its return to Israel.
“The return of the last abducted body is a significant and valuable closing of a circle,” the Shin Bet said.
