Israeli security services have revealed that Moshe Atias, an 18-year-old resident of Yavne, was arrested after being recruited by Iranian intelligence to carry out surveillance on former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Atias was instructed to go to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba—where Bennett was hospitalized—and document the security arrangements. He filmed various entry points, sensitive areas of the building, and even the floor where the Prime Minister’s room was located.
Officials stated that Atias had previously completed smaller missions for two Iranian handlers before being tasked with this sensitive operation.
During questioning, he expressed regret, saying he acted out of financial motivation.
This is the 19th case of Iranian espionage uncovered in Israel in recent year.
The Office of Former Prime Minister and Defense Minister Naftali Bennett released this statement:
“Former Prime Minister Bennett fully trusts the Shin Bet, the IDF, and all security forces, and continues his tours and meetings with the Israeli public across the country.”
“Iranian attempts to target world leaders have failed—and will fail here as well. These threats will not deter Bennett from continuing to act for the security of Israel.”
“Bennett believes that Israel must shift from passivity to assertiveness. Tehran—not Tel Aviv—should be on the defensive.”
