A Spanish woman who participated in the Hamas-linked Global Sumud Flotilla, an effort to breach Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza, bit an Israeli medic at Ketziot Prison on Sunday evening, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The attack occurred “after the staff member escorted her back from a routine medical examination as part of preparations for her expected deportation tomorrow,” the ministry said in an official statement.
The medic suffered minor injuries and was treated on site. Police were called to manage the assailant, the statement added.
The incident followed Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by IDF naval commandos on Wednesday night, the eve of Yom Kippur. Commandos gained full control of the final vessel in the flotilla on Friday morning.
Among the activists aboard was Swedish environmental campaigner and antisemite Greta Thunberg, who had already been deported by Israel in June after joining a previous flotilla named the Madleen.
Thunberg and 136 other activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla were deported to Turkey on Saturday.
