With just over one month to go until Israel’s election, several Knesset candidates recently requested security protection from the Shin Bet, citing concerns over threats to their safety. The requests came from Gadi Eisenkot, Yair Golan, and Ofer Winter.

A special committee tasked with reviewing personal security arrangements provided by the Shin Bet convened today, Wednsday. The committee determined that Shin Bet chief David Zini will decide on the matter following a review.

Zini will soon have to determine whether Eisenkot, Golan, and Winter, who are currently private citizens and not sitting Knesset members, will receive security protection for the duration of the election period.

The other candidates, Avigdor Liberman and Naftali Bennett, still hold personal security detail from their previous roles as Defense Minister and Prime Minister, respectively, and continue to retain that protection.
