A man has been arrested and charged with assault after allegedly attacking a Jewish man in Borough Park Monday evening, Shomrim and police tell Belaaz.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. at a gas station located at the corner of 11th Avenue and 60th Street. According to police and Shomrim, the suspect, 36-year-old Sizer Jobon, of Midwood, followed the victim from the convenience store’s bathroom, chased him down, intimidated and punched him, as seen ln surveillance footage capturing the incident. Police say the victim sustained injuries but did not require hospitalization. The suspect and victim did not have a prior relationship and the attack was unprovoked.

During the assault, the suspect is seen stepping on the victim’s yarmulke.

A witness at the scene quickly called Boro Park Shomrim and provided a description of the attacker. Shomrim volunteers located Jobin and tailed him as he boarded a city bus. They coordinated with the NYPD, who intercepted the bus and placed Jobon under arrest at 15th Avenue and 60th Street.

The suspect’s address appears to be a storage facility located on Avenue M and East 14th Street, but it is not the establishment’s publicly listed location, according to a representative of the company.

Despite the nature of the attack, the NYPD is not treating the incident as a hate crime.
