In a disgusting act of hate, Swastikas were spray-painted overnight on the walls of the Magen David Yeshiva in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood, prompting an immediate probe by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.
Flatbush Shomrim coordinator Tzi Weil tells Belaaz that surveillance footage captured a suspect dressed in all black riding a bicycle past the yeshiva at around 6:10 a.m., spray-painting four swastikas on the building’s exterior. “We are currently reviewing video footage,” Weil told Belaaz.
The incident has stunned the local Jewish community and fueled fears of surging antisemitism in New York City—just hours after Zohran Mamdani’s election as the city’s next mayor.
In a statement to Belaaz, Tzi Weil issued a stark warning about public safety under the incoming administration:
“It’s going to be up to the new Mayor on JAN 1 2026 to show toughness and work with all communities to insure that anyone committing a hate crime as well as any other crimes will be dealt with. Otherwise things will get out of control in a hurry.”

Pinny Ringel, District Leader of the 48th Assembly District, tells Belaaz: “It’s sickening that antisemites feel emboldened to express their hatred openly in New York City, a place with the largest population of Holocaust survivors. Hate has no place in this city. Thank you to the NYC Police Department and Flatbush Shomrim for their swift response to the yeshiva and for investigating this deeply troubling incident.”
In a post on X, NYC Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani responded to the Antisemitic graffiti spray painted on the Flatbush Yeshivhah:
“This is a disgusting and heartbreaking act of antisemitism, and it has no place in our beautiful city. As Mayor, I will always stand steadfast with our Jewish neighbors to root the scourge of antisemitism out of our city.”

Askan Moshe Spern, head of United Jewish Teachers, told Belaaz: “I call this the Mamdani effect, in the sense that people have now been given this permission to act and with aggression towards Jewish people. And this is the fear we all had with electing someone like Zohran with his views as the next mayor. Now we cannot blame him for this act. This is the act of a few people, but the reality is, we know things will only get worse, unless he takes a strong stance today and denounces acts like this and makes it very clear that people who act this way will be criminalized and will go to jail for it, or will face consequences for it. That’s the reality.”
