Following the cancellation of street demonstrations that were initially scheduled for Rosh Chodesh Elul, Gedolei Yisrael are preparing for a large-scale unity gathering expected to take place next week, B’chadrei Charedim reported Friday.

Sources who spoke with the news outlet indicate that rabbanim and askanim have been making rounds to the homes of Gedolei Yisrael to coordinate a mass tefillah rally.

Arrangements for the event are said to be in their final stages. Organizers are considering branding it as the “Rally of the Million,” with the clear intention that all segments of Charedi Jewry will stand together in tefilah and protest against the draft decree this coming Thursday.

Previous demonstrations have seen tens of thousands of demonstrators take to the streets to protest the draft.

Gedolei Yisrael had already issued a letter weeks ago calling for a public rally, but the plan was shelved at that time. The renewed initiative signals a fresh push to unite the community in opposition to the decree.

Meanwhile, Hamevaser reported earlier Friday that Jewish communities in Eretz Yisrael and abroad are also preparing to instruct people to offer tefilos for relief from the draft law during the upcoming Selichos.
