A 16-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries on Monday evening after a vehicle barreled into a crowd of Charedi demonstrators in Bnei Brak.
Police later announced the arrest of a 24-year-old Bnei Brak resident suspected of deliberately running into protesters and fleeing the scene.
Video published by Kan News captured the car pushing through the crowd and knocking multiple protesters to the ground.
According to Magen David Adom, the incident took place on Jabotinsky Street near the Geha Interchange. The injured teenager was taken to Rabin Medical Center–Beilinson Campus in Petah Tikva.
In a separate episode, police said a 37-year-old scooter rider also attempted to ram protesters and was arrested. Both suspects were taken in for questioning.
The protest, led by Peleg Yerushalmi, held near Bnei Brak continued into the evening, blocking Highway 4 and Jabotinsky Street.
Emergency teams treated the injured boy at the scene before evacuating him in moderate condition to Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petach Tikva.
Rescue paramedics Yaakov Tehrani and Menachem Stern told Bechadrei Charedim: “When we arrived at the scene of the traffic accident, we found a pedestrian, a 16-year-old boy, suffering from injuries to his abdomen, pelvis, and lower limbs, after being hit by a vehicle during a demonstration taking place at the scene. Together with rescue and MDA paramedics, we provided him with initial medical treatment, including immobilization and dressings, and he was evacuated in moderate condition to continue receiving medical treatment in the trauma room at Schneider Hospital in Petach Tikva.”
Police continued working to clear the blocked roads, redirect drivers, and maintain order. Officials stressed they will not permit actions that endanger lives or obstruct freedom of movement, urging the public to avoid the Bnei Brak area and use alternate routes.
Earlier this week, MK Boaz Bismuth’s draft bill came under fire during back-to-back meetings of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, with lawmakers arguing the proposal was “not nearly enough.”
Bismuth outlined an updated version of the legislation on Monday, but pushback from coalition and opposition MKs has further reduced its chances of passing its second and third readings in the Knesset plenum.
On Tuesday, Benjamin Netanyahu canceled a planned statement on the draft bill minutes before he was scheduled to speak, citing “scheduling constraints.”
