On Friday, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich spoke with his American counterpart, the incoming U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and congratulated him on his appointment. This marks the end of the U.S. boycott on right wing minister Smotrich that had been imposed during the Biden administration.
A statement from the Israeli Finance Ministry stated that “During their conversation, Minister Smotrich emphasized the deep and strategic friendship between Israel and the United States, and the mutual commitment of both countries to promoting shared values and strengthening the economy. Minister Smotrich thanked the incoming Secretary for the unequivocal support of President Trump and the new administration towards Israel.”
Minister Smotrich further noted that he looks forward to working closely with his American counterpart in order to deepen and expand the economic cooperation between the two nations for the benefit of both. During their conversation, Minister Smotrich invited Secretary Bost to visit Israel.
