Thousands gathered on Thursday evening for the levaya of Tze’ela Gez Hy”d, a mother from Bruchin, whose son was born after her death. Tze’ela, who was in her ninth month of pregnancy, was brutally murdered in a terrorist attack while en route to the hospital with her husband to give birth.
The levayah took place at Har HaMenuchos in Yerushalayim.
Her devoted husband, Hananel, poured out his heart in a hesped: “You were the light of my life, the greatest gift I ever received. I stand here torn, but I thank G-d for the 11 years I merited to be with you. You were a woman of endless compassion, a true heroine… You dedicated your life to healing souls and always said it was a matter of life and death.
“You raised three sweet children with love, devotion, and warmth… I want to tell Am Yisrael that we are in deep pain. I want to tell our precious son, born an orphan, that I love you. Her pregnancy was very difficult, and she did everything so you could grow up in peace and calm.”
Tze’ela’s younger sister, Shaked, wept: “I want to apologize because no words I say can describe you… My sister, my dear, love of my heart… We will avenge your-
Former Chief Rabbi Rav David Lau, shlita, offered a moving eulogy: “Beyond our prayers for IDF soldiers and the hostages… we now also pray for the newborn child of Tze’ela, that he may live. May his grandfather bring him into Bris Avraham, and may he live a life of peace.”
Minister Orit Strock reflected: “You lit up so many hearts. You were a woman of truth, never afraid to speak it… We must now shine many lights in Shomron and throughout Eretz Yisrael. That will be the first and most important response to this vile murder.”
David Ben Zion, Deputy Head of the Samaria Regional Council, emphasized the sanctity of Tze’ela’s death: “You were murdered as a proud Jew…You were murdered for the sanctification of God’s name.”
Tze’ela and her husband, Hananel, were traveling the familiar road between Peduel and Bruchin when terrorists fired upon multiple vehicles. While some escaped, their car was directly struck.
Despite the doctors’ efforts at Beilinson Hospital, Tze’ela was niftar. An emergency C-section was performed in an attempt to save her unborn child.
The baby, now orphaned, remains in serious but stable condition. Hananel, lightly injured, has been released from the hospital to grieve and begin the unimaginable journey forward.
In the morning following the tragedy, Hananel shared his grief with the public: “Hello friends, today is a sad day. Last night my wife was murdered. We were on our way to the hospital to joyfully welcome our fourth son.”
Despite his sorrow, he held fast to his faith: “Of course I’m broken… but I also thank G-d that I survived and will be strong to continue being a light to the entire world… I will continue to fight for the wellbeing of our people… Hashem is One.”
