Two Israeli soldiers were tragically killed and eight others were wounded when an IDF crane collapsed on them in Gaza, the army announced Thursday morning.

Sgt. First Class (res.) Nadav Cohen, 21, from Beit Hanan, and Staff Sgt. Nachman Refael Ben Ami, 20, from Eilat, were killed.

The two soldiers were members of the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion.

One of the wounded soldiers was listed in serious condition, according to the Times of Israel.

The incident happened at around 12 a.m. Thursday morning.

The IDF found in a preliminary investigation that strong winds in the area caused a crane to fall over during the night, crashing down on the soldiers, who were staying in a tent. The crane was carrying surveillance equipment at the time.

In light of the incident, the IDF has placed a hold on all such uses of cranes in the area.

The two deaths bring the total number of IDF soldiers lost in Gaza to 410.
