Truckers Must Speak English Under New Trump Executive Order

President Donald Trump is set sign an executive order Monday mandating that truck drivers speak English, according to a White House document on the expected executive order obtained by Breitbart News.

“President Trump believes that English is a non-negotiable safety requirement for professional drivers,” the document noted.

“As they should be able to read and understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety officers, border patrol, agricultural checkpoints, and cargo weight-limit station personnel, and provide and receive feedback and directions in English.”

Truckers’ groups have been pushing for the move ever since Trump made English the official language of the US last month.

James Lamb, Small Business in Transportation’s (SBTC) president, stated in an email to Larry Minor, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMSCA) associate administrator for policy, “If the agency’s policy is still to not place truck drivers who do not speak or read English out-of-service in accordance with the Department’s motor carrier safety regulations on qualifications to drive, we request you please change the policy back to placing such drivers out-of-service in the interest of public safety.”
