The Trump administration has halted all funding to the Palestinian Authority’s security forces, dealing a significant blow to the authority’s stability in the region, the Washington Post reports.

This move comes at a critical juncture, as the authority faces mounting crises, including rising resistance and popularity of Iran-backed terror groups in the terror city of Jenin.

The funding freeze further weakens the authority’s already fragile grip on power, particularly in light of its underfunded and unpopular security forces.

Exercises and courses for the PA’s security forces are conducted through the Jerusalem-based Office of the Security Coordinator, originally known as the United States Security Coordinator (USSC) for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, a multinational consortium.

This is not the first time the United States has stopped direct aid to the Palestinian Authority; during Trump’s first term, funding was halted as well, but training and reform programs for the security forces continued.
