In a pointed response to recent comments by Democratic strategist James Carville, Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, a Trump ally and nominee for U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, has defended tech adviser Jacob Helberg and billionaire investor Bill Ackman against accusations that their shift from supporting the Democratic Party to backing President Donald Trump in 2024 was motivated by financial interests.
Carville, during an episode of his “Politics War Room” podcast, suggested that wealthy Jewish donors, including Helberg and Ackman, were using concerns about antisemitism within the Democratic Party as a pretext to support Trump for tax cuts, a claim Kaploun vehemently disputes.
Rabbi Kaploun issued the following statement: “The accusation that Jacob Helberg and Bill Ackman are not supporting the Democratic Party because of tax breaks and not their willingness to confront antisemitism cannot be further from the truth. Jacob and Bill have been staunch supporters of Americans and the Jewish people and the fight against hate in our country. They are proud Americans and proud Jews.”
