The U.S. Senate on Thursday confirmed Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun as the new United States Ambassador a Large to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, concluding a lengthy confirmation process and formally installing him in the role, sources tell Belaaz.
The Senate confirmed him by a vote of 53 to 43.
Speaking exclusively to Belaaz shortly after the vote, Rabbi Kaploun expressed gratitude to the administration for entrusting him with the position. “First of all I would like to thank President Trump and Secretary Rubio for placing their trust in me to represent the United States globally to combat antisemitism,” he told Belaaz.
Rabbi Kaploun emphasized the administration’s stance on the issue, saying, “As they have stated antisemitism cannot be tolerated anytime and anywhere around the globe.”
He also spoke about the personal and spiritual weight of the responsibility. “I pray to G-d Almighty that out nation and the worldwide Jewish community will be protected and that G-d should grant me the wisdom and strength to perform this important mission,” he said.
Noting the timing of the vote, Rabbi Kaploun said, “It is extremely appropriate that this vote after a long confirmation process took place on Chanukah where we add in light.”
Referring to recent events, he added, “After the tragic events in Sidney Australia and the numerous occurrences of antisemitism almost daily, our task is enormous.”
Rabbi Kaploun concluded with a call for cooperation across communities. “I ask all of us to work together with me to make this world one where all faiths can live in peace with one another which is the goal of the president and this administration,” he said.
