US President Donald Trump announced Monday night that Israel and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire to end recent hostilities. The truce is set to be phased in over 24 hours, with Iran halting its military actions first, followed by Israel 12 hours later.

In a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump detailed the terms of the agreement, declaring an end to what he dubbed “THE 12 DAY WAR.”

However, an Iranian official told CNN: “We have not received any proposal for a ceasefire and we do not see any reason for one.”

“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump wrote.

He further clarified the phased nature of the de-escalation: “Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL. On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR.'”

The dramatic announcement followed a tense evening that saw reports of explosions in Tehran, just after the IDF’s Persian-language spokesperson had warned residents of the city’s District 7 to evacuate.

The ceasefire announcement came after Iran launched a retaliatory strike for the recent destruction of its nuclear facilities. President Trump mocked what he called Iran’s “very weak response… which we expected and have very effectively countered.”

He wrote on Truth Social that an Iranian attack on a US airbase in Qatar consisted of 14 missiles, 13 of which were shot down. The one missile that landed, he said, “was headed in a non-threatening direction.” Trump confirmed that no Americans were harmed and that “hardly any damage was done.”

“They’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE,” Trump wrote. “I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost and nobody to be injured.”

The move toward de-escalation aligns with a strategy reported earlier Monday by Axios, which cited a senior White House official stating that Trump’s goal was to end the war following the retaliation.

“We want a deal and we don’t want any more war,” the official was quoted as having said.

Reflecting this sentiment, Trump added, “Perhaps Iran can now proceed to peace and harmony in the region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”

The President concluded his series of posts with a celebratory tone and thanked a regional partner for their role.

“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!” wrote the President.

In subsequent posts, Trump thanked the Qatari emir “for all that he has done in seeking peace for the region” and declared, “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!”
