Martin Marks was named the White House liaison to the Jewish community, according to a Friday report from Jewish Insider. The appointment, confirmed by a White House spokesperson, marks the formal revival of the position formerly held by President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
White House assistant press secretary Taylor Rogers emphasized the broader mission behind the appointment, stating:
“President Trump is committed to restoring peace through strength, bringing the hostages home and combatting antisemitism at home and abroad.
The White House Faith Office is delivering on the President’s promise to protect religious freedom for Americans of all faiths, including Jewish Americans.”
Marks, an outspoken Zionist and advocate against antisemitism, played a key part in Trump’s 2024 campaign as Director of Jewish Outreach. His involvement in issues affecting the Jewish community predates this appointment, notably his role in addressing the suspension of a grant program that supports several synagogues.
Nathan Diament, executive director of public policy for the Orthodox Union, credited Marks with helping move the issue forward.
“We’ve been trying to shake that loose for several weeks, and Martin has been very, very helpful with that,” Diament told the Jewish Chronicle. “He’s been a good facilitator in terms of getting issues in front of the people that need to hear about them.”
Before entering political work, Marks was a writer for publications like Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, and as the owner of a yoga studio in Palm Beach, Florida. He also previously served as senior advisor and chief strategist to his mother, Lana Marks, who held the position of U.S. ambassador to South Africa during Trump’s first term.
