U.S. President Donald Trump was reportedly moved to tears after viewing disturbing footage of Israeli hostage Eviatar David, who appears severely emaciated and is seen digging what Hamas terrorists told him would be his own grave. The harrowing video was released by Hamas over the weekend, and has sparked widespread outrage and horror.
Eviatar David, who has been held in captivity for 667 days, is visibly suffering from extreme malnutrition in the footage. His brother, Ilya (Illi) David, gave an emotional interview Sunday morning to Kan describing the torment his family is enduring.
“I can’t watch this video because I’ll fall to pieces,” Illi said. “I can’t afford to see Eviatar like this now because I need to be focused and fight for him.”
Illi warned that Eviatar’s life is hanging by a thread. “I understand how much immediate danger his life is in right now. We understand that it’s a matter of days if he doesn’t receive medical treatment and food,” he said. “I see my parents and they’re falling apart before my eyes. I need to protect them and support them so I can’t watch this video right now.”
Evyatar’s family initially did not grant permission for any of the propaganda footage to be published by the media, but later agreed to air certain parts.
When asked whether their parents had seen the footage, Illi said their mother refused, while their father chose to view it. “Mom insisted not to, she can’t. Dad insisted on watching. He must feel Eviatar in every way. It broke him down. It’s hard to see your child like we saw in the Holocaust 80 years ago. Knowing that he’s suffering like this and that they deliberately starved him for months is unimaginable.”
The video of Eviatar, frail and forced to dig his own grave under the watch of armed terrorists, has become a symbol of the brutality Israeli hostages continue to endure in Gaza. Trump’s emotional response adds another high-profile voice to the growing international calls for their immediate release.
