Trump and El-Sisi

Despite fierce refusals from Egypt and Jordan, U.S. President Donald Trump insisted Thursday that the two Arab states will follow his suggestion and absorb Palestinians from Gaza as part of a restructuring of the strip post-war.
“They will do it. They will do it. They’re gonna do it, okay? We do a lot for them, and they’re gonna do it,” Trump said when asked about the proposal during a photo op in the Oval Office.
Egypt and Jordan both recognize and maintain decades-long peace treaties with Israel, however they have historically refused to take in Palestinians. Relocating Palestinians would be seen as capitulation to Israel, while Jordan has a history of Palestinians attempting en masse to overthrow the Hashemite Kingdom, leading to the mass killings of Palestinians in 1970 referred to as Black September.
Both Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sissi and Jordan’s King Abdullah openly rejected Trump’s plan on Wednesday.
“Regarding what is being said about the displacement of Palestinians, it can never be tolerated or allowed because of its impact on Egyptian national security,” Sissi said.
