US President Donald Trump invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the White House “in the near future” during a phone call Monday evening, Netanyahu’s office says.
According to the Israeli readout, the two leaders underscored “the importance of and commitment to dismantling Hamas’s military capabilities and demilitarizing the Gaza Strip,” and also discussed further expanding the region’s peace accords.
If finalized, the trip would mark Netanyahu’s fourth White House visit since Trump returned to office in January; a higher number than any other international leader. Trump also met Netanyahu in Israel earlier this year.
The conversation followed Trump’s recent warning to Israel not to destabilize Syria or its new leadership, issued just days after IDF forces clashed with gunmen in southern Syria.
“It is very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous State,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The call also came one day after Netanyahu formally asked Yitzchak Herzog for a pardon in his ongoing corruption case; a request Trump has vocally supported, both in public comments from the Knesset podium in October and in a follow-up letter to the president.
