At the NATO summit in The Hague, US President Donald Trump said Israel deployed operatives to assess the damage at Iran’s Fordo nuclear site following American airstrikes earlier this week.
“You know they have guys that go in there after the hit, and they said it was total obliteration,” says Trump.
Reports have varied this week as to how effective the “bunker buster” bombs were in destroying Isfahan, Natanz and Fordo. Trump insists that they were destroyed, but some experts are doubtful.
Trump stated that Israeli intelligence is currently preparing a full report on the aftermath of the strike. “Israel is doing a report on it now, I understand, and I was told that they said it was total obliteration.”
He reiterated his belief that the operation was a complete success. “I believe it was total obliteration,” says Trump, “and I believe they didn’t have a chance to get anything out because we acted fast.”
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised the precision of the mission. “The bombs landed precisely where they were supposed to,” he said. “Flawless mission, right down where we needed to enter… It was devastation underneath Fordo.”
However, Israeli officials have told the Kan public broadcaster that they are not aware of any Israeli infiltration or operation at the Fordo nuclear facility following Sunday’s US strike.
Shas leader Rabbi Aryeh Deri pushed back against Trump’s statement saying, “no one has visited there yet.” Nonetheless, he asserted, “I can tell you that the existential threat… has been removed from the people of Israel.”
