President Donald Trump penned a letter to Chabad shluchim and rabbanim in honor of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s 31st Yahrtzeit, observed on 3 Tammuz.
In the letter, Trump emphasized the pivotal role the Lubavitcher Rebbe played in igniting “a renaissance of Jewish faith in the dark days following the Holocaust,” and pointed out that “his teachings were a core inspiration for criminal justice reform, as seen in the First Step Act.”
Trump visited the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Ohel on October 7, 2024, and described the experience as one in which he “drew spiritual guidance and replenishment from his voice and message.”
“As time has worn on, his many blessings have only increased,” the president wrote.

More than 50,000 visitors are expected this weekend at the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s kever in Queens, known as the Ohel, with people coming from every background and walk of life.
Trump’s visit to the Ohel took place on October 7, 2024, marking one year since the devastating Palestinian terror onslaught in Israel.
“When I visited the Ohel … I drew strength and inspiration from the Rebbe’s legacy,” he wrote. “When Edan Alexander returned to his loving parents earlier this year, after an unimaginable ordeal in the hands of Hamas, the entire country felt the power of the Ohel and the Rebbe’s enduring example. As is frequently cited in the Talmud, the Rebbe lived by the principle that when you save one life, you save an entire world.”
Since the October 7 massacre, many hostage families have made their way to the Ohel. The Alexander family joined Trump on his visit. Edan was released from Hamas captivity on May 12.
At the time of his Ohel visit, Trump had already survived two assassination attempts within a short span of weeks.
Reflecting on the challenges he faces, Trump shared that he continues to draw inspiration from the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s teachings and example.
“Through great strength, unflinching resolve, and much prayer, I am committed to returning our entire world—not least in the Middle East, as we witnessed over the past week—and to stamping out anti-Semitic hate wherever it rears its head. In doing this, we will restore to its tradition of greatness and usher in a new Golden Age for the entire world. This, I believe, is the Rebbe’s legacy.”
