US President Donald Trump reportedly told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on a phone call Monday to end the Gaza war and that his threats to strike Iran are not constructive, according Kan public broadcaster and Channel 12.
During a 40-minute phone conversation Monday, Netanyahu expressed his belief that negotiations with Iran are pointless. He told Trump that Iran is simply stalling and trying to prolong discussions without any real intention of reaching a deal.
In response, Trump reportedly pushed back, saying that Netanyahu’s threats to attack Iran were “not helping” while he is attempting to secure an agreement with Tehran.
Channel 12 reported that Trump went a step further, telling Netanyahu that a military strike on Iran is currently off the table.
According to Channel 12, Trump delivered an extraordinary message to Netanyahu during their call, stating that he expects Israel to bring the war in Gaza to an end—not just to reach a ceasefire and secure a hostage release via the Witkoff framework being discussed in ongoing negotiations, but to bring the entire conflict to a close.
The report said Trump argued that ending the war in Gaza would help facilitate broader diplomatic efforts with both Iran and Saudi Arabia. Channel 12 added that Washington is reportedly willing to offer Hamas significant guarantees in order to achieve an end to the war.
This conversation may help explain Netanyahu’s earlier comments Tuesday in which he claimed that there has been renewed progress in negotiations for the hostages, according to the network.
Trump also made clear that his diplomatic efforts with Iran are still ongoing. While he disapproved of Iran’s most recent proposal, he emphasized that “the door has not closed.”
The report concluded by noting that Trump does not intend to consider military action unless and until it becomes clear that the negotiations with Iran have definitively failed.
