US President Donald Trump said on Monday that talks between Hamas and Arab and Muslim nations over a possible Gaza ceasefire and hostage release have been “very positive” and are moving swiftly toward completion.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that “very positive discussions” had taken place over the weekend aimed at ending the war in Gaza, securing the release of hostages, and achieving “PEACE in the Middle East.”

“These talks have been very successful, and proceeding rapidly,” he stated, noting that “technical teams” are scheduled to reconvene Monday in Egypt to “work through and clarify the final details.”

“I am told that the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST,” Trump continued, calling on all sides to accelerate progress.

It remains unclear what the president meant by the “first phase,” or whether that stage includes the initial release of hostages.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said over the weekend that he was hopeful some hostages could be freed during Sukkos.

“I will continue to monitor this centuries-old ‘conflict,’” Trump wrote. “TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE OR, MASSIVE BLOODSHED WILL FOLLOW — SOMETHING THAT NOBODY WANTS TO SEE!”

Later in the night, Trump told reporters outside the White House that the push for a ceasefire “looks like it’s working.”

“We’ll wait for a little while, [and] see how it all turns out,” he said, adding that “Arab, Muslim and other countries have had very good meetings with Hamas.”

“I think it’s going to go very quickly. We’ll let you know soon,” the president added confidently.

Negotiations continue in Cairo as the region awaits concrete signs of progress toward a ceasefire and the long-hoped-for return of the remaining Israeli hostages.
