President Donald Trump said earlier, Tuesday, that the United States appears to know the location of Ran Gvili Hy’d, last remaining hostage in Gaza.
The statement has raised cautious hope as efforts continue to secure his return. Hamas terrorists deny that they know his whereabouts, but many in Israel say the terrorists are lying and holding his body for leverage.
Ran Gvili’s parents, Itzik and Talik Gvili, issued the statement after President Trump said they think they know the location of Ran’s body:
“President Trump’s statement confirms what we have been saying for the past three months: Hamas knows exactly where our son is and has knowingly and deliberately violated President Trump’s framework and the agreement to return all hostages. The responsibility now lies with the Government of Israel and the U.S. administration to exert the full weight of their authority to ensure that Hamas fulfills its obligations under the agreement, or guarantee that serious sanctions are imposed on Hamas.
President Trump looked us in the eyes, with tears, and promised to bring our Rani home. We have no doubt that he is a man of his word, and we believe we will see Rani home soon. The responsibility for bringing Rani home rests with the Israeli government, which must refrain from any steps toward implementing Phase Two until Rani has returned.”
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem to Al-Jazeera:
“We have provided all the information we have regarding Ran Gvili. We have acted positively regarding the efforts to search for him. Israel has repeatedly delayed the search efforts in areas beyond the yellow line. We are updating the mediators on the efforts to reach him, and we are ready to cooperate with the mediators and the guarantors of the agreement in any effort to find the body. Still, Israel is exploiting the failure to locate him to evade the commitments of the first stage.”
