Members of the Bobov-45 Chasidish community learned this week of a “historic letter” sent by President Donald Trump to their Rebbe, shlita.
The letter, which was sent to congratulate the Rebbe on the inauguration of his massive new Beis Medrash in Borough Park, arrived during Chol HaMoed but was only revealed to the wider public in the last 24 hours. The grand opening of the new center took place just before the Yamim Noraim.
Belaaz has learned that community letters of this sort are frequently written by one of Trump’s associates, signed with an auto pen, and that the president is sometimes not aware of them. This letter is likely one such case.
In the letter, President Trump mentioned that the new Beis Medrash continues the distinguished legacy of the Rebbe’s grandfather, the previous Rebbe, Rebbe Shlomo of Bobov, zt”l.
“Congratulations on the completion of your new synagogue in Brooklyn, New York,” the letter began.
“This building is a powerful testament to the strength and courage of the Bobov-45 community. From the destruction of the Holocaust, the third Bobover Rebbe rebuilt Jewish life in New York, laying the foundation for the dynamic and vibrant community that has flourished for generations. This new synagogue continues that legacy, standing as a symbol of the resilience of the Jewish people and a reminder that even from the ashes of tragedy, great things can grow.”
The letter was delivered to the Rebbe through Rabbi David Katz, who is close with some Trump staffers. Rabbi Katz also arranged letters sent from the White House to the Skverer and Satmar Rebbes shlita.
