President Donald Trump said Wednesday he is weighing the deployment of federal agents and National Guard troops to New Orleans in addition to Chicago, citing rising crime and local support for federal intervention.

“So we’re making a determination now, do we go to Chicago? Do we go to a place like New Orleans, where we have a great governor, Jeff Landry, who wants us to come in and straighten out a very nice section of this country that’s become quite, you know, quite tough, quite bad,” Trump said.

The president emphasized that the federal government could move swiftly if invited by state and local leaders. “So we’re going to be going to maybe Louisiana, and you have New Orleans, which has a crime problem. We’ll straighten that out in about two weeks. It’ll take us two weeks easier than DC, but we could straighten out Chicago. All they have to do is ask us to go into Chicago, if we don’t have the support of some of these politicians. But I’ll tell you who is supporting us — the people of Chicago.”

Trump’s comments come after similar efforts. in Washington, D.C., where Trump has deployed federal agents to combat violence and restore security in the nation’s capital. Over the past week, he has met with law enforcement leaders, toured areas where federal operations are underway, and highlighted his administration’s readiness to use national resources when local governments fail to act.

The White House is expected to coordinate closely with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, whom Trump praised directly, while continuing outreach to Illinois officials.
