Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House on Monday for a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

As the two leaders met, reporters asked Trump whether he believed a breakthrough was possible for ending the war in Gaza and reaching a peace deal.

“I am — I’m very confident,” Trump said before heading inside with Netanyahu.

While shaking hands with Trump, Netanyahu was also heard saying, “I hope so,” though it was not clear what specific remark he was responding to.

According to a report from Axios, the “21-point plan” being discussed would include the release of all remaining hostages, the establishment of a permanent ceasefire, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from the entire Gaza Strip. The framework also calls for creating a post-war governing system in Gaza without Hamas, backed by a security force made up of Palestinians together with soldiers from Arab and Muslim nations.

Under the proposal, Arab and Muslim states would provide the funding for Gaza’s new governing structure and reconstruction efforts, with limited participation from the Palestinian Authority
