President Donald Trump’s letter sent two weeks ago to Iran included a 2-month deadline to come to an agreement on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, according to two sources who spoke with Axios Wednesday.

Trump wrote to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to propose direct negotiations, the former said in an interview with Fox 2 weeks ago.

A day after announcing the letter, Trump said the U.S. is “down to the final moments” with Iran.
“We can’t let them have a nuclear weapon. Something is going to happen very soon. I would rather have a peace deal than the other option but the other option will solve the problem,” he said.

The sources said Trump’s letter to Khamenei was “tough.”
