President Donald Trump’s executive order promising to make IVF and other fertility treatments more affordable expires Monday, as the Tzedek advocacy group seeks a positive response from the Administration.
In an exclusive discussion with Belaaz, Tzedek says they are hopeful that they will receive notification soon as to the Administration’s progress on formulating a solution to make IVF more affordable.
The order, signed Feb. 19, instructed the Domestic Policy Council to research ways to assist more Americans in obtaining IVF and other fertility treatments, and report with their recommendations within 90 days.
.
Trump had promised while campaigning that either insurance companies would cover the cost, or the government would find some way to assist.
“We hope to hear from them [the Administration] within the next few days,” a representative of Tzedek told Belaaz. Tzedek, ran by Rabbi Moshe Margaretten, lobbied Washington to include IVF and other fertility treatments in the Affordable Care Act.
Tzedek President, Rabbi Moshe Margeretten tells Belaaz: “In the history of our country, no president has shown a deeper commitment to helping Americans struggling with infertility than President Trump,” said Rabbi Moshe Margaretten, President of Tzedek Association. “We’ve been honored to work closely with his administration to pursue real solutions for families unfairly burdened by the high cost of fertility treatment.”
The organization sponsored a national poll released today (Monday) revealing sweeping national support for IVF, even among the pro-life community, despite the position of some within the Catholic church that IVF runs afoul of their religious beliefs.
The poll, published by Republican firm Fabrizio, Lee & Associates, showed 85% of registered voters overall supported IVF, including 78% of Republicans, 82% of Catholics, 81% of evangelicals, and 80% of voters who identify as “pro-life.”
Additionally, a poll taken last year by the Pew Research Center showed 70% of Americans believe that IVF is a positive thing, while 8% viewed it negatively; 22% were unsure.
Although most IVF orgs are liberal, Tzedek has been leading the charge for IVF and fertility treatments. Margaretten, Dr Kaylen Silverberg and others affiliated with the group have held meetings with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, the Domestic Policy Council and HHS and CMS.
Tzedek and Americans For IVF are currently running an online petition to make pro-IVF voices heard. It can be signed HERE >>> https://nobabyleftbehind.org/petition/
