Secretary Kristi Noem landing in Israel, welcomed by US Ambassador Mike Huckabbee
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, arrived early Sunday morning at Ben Gurion Airport for a special visit to Israel, following last week’s deadly terror attack in Washington, D.C., in which two Israeli embassy staff members were murdered.
During her visit, Secretary Noem is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and participate in a formal memorial ceremony alongside Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, honoring the victims of the attack — reportedly carried out by a pro-Palestinian extremist with a known radical background.
In a move considered unprecedented, the Secretary is also expected to take part in tomorrow’s Jerusalem Day celebrations — marking the reunification of Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War. This will be the first time in history that a senior U.S. administration official participates in this national Israeli event.
Noticeably absent from the Secretary’s itinerary is any meeting with her Israeli counterpart, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir. As of this report, no meeting has been scheduled between the two, echoing their previous non-engagement during Minister Ben Gvir’s visit to the United States two months ago.
