In a 51 to 49 vote, the U.S. Senate has confirmed Kash Patel as the ninth FBI Director, marking a significant milestone in President Donald Trump’s efforts to reshape the nation’s top law enforcement agency.

Patel’s nomination was met with intense opposition from Democrats, who raised concerns about his loyalty to President Trump.

Patel, a former intelligence and Defense Department official, has been a vocal critic of FBI investigations into Trump. He has called for the reshaping of the agency, pledging to expand its role in combating illegal immigration and violent crime.

Two moderate Republicans, Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, joined Democrats in opposition. Patel’s confirmation.

As FBI Director, Patel will oversee the agency’s investigations and operations, including its handling of sensitive national security and counterterrorism cases. His appointment is seen as a victory for Trump’s efforts to exert greater control over the FBI and the Justice Department.
