Britain has blocked Israeli officers from enrolling at its prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies, citing opposition to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, according to a Sunday report in The Telegraph.
A spokesperson for the UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that Israeli personnel would not be admitted to the London-based academy this year. “Israel’s actions in Gaza are wrong,” the statement said, explaining that the policy reflected Britain’s concerns over the scale of Israel’s operation in Gaza City.
The move comes as London, alongside France and other Western capitals, has urged Israel to halt its current offensive in Gaza City. The UK has repeatedly called for steps to ease civilian suffering while pressing for a renewed ceasefire.
It is the latest in a series of restrictions on Israeli participation in British defense forums. Two weeks ago, the government barred Israeli officials from attending next month’s Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition, one of the world’s largest arms fairs, though Israeli defense companies were told they could still showcase their technology.
Officials in London have said the decision targets representatives of Israel’s government rather than its private defence sector, describing it as a response to what they view as disproportionate military action in Gaza.
Israeli authorities have not yet issued a formal response to the exclusion from the Royal College or the limits on DSEI attendance, but Israeli media have criticised the moves as politically motivated.
