In a letter dated September 1, former UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has reportedly informed Sarah Champion, chair of the International Development Committee, that a Foreign Office assessment determined Israel’s actions in Gaza do not meet the legal threshold for genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention, according to a report by The Times.

This marks a significant shift from the UK’s previous position, which until recently maintained that the question of genocide was solely for courts to decide, leaving the matter open to judicial interpretation.
