US Warns Hamas Planning Attack On Palestinians in Gaza, Violating Ceasefire

The United States has warned that Hamas is preparing an imminent attack targeting Palestinian civilians in Gaza, an act Washington says would violate the ceasefire agreement and threaten recent diplomatic progress.

According to a weekend statement from the State Department, the U.S. has informed Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt, key mediators in the truce, of “credible reports indicating an imminent ceasefire violation by Hamas against the people of Gaza.”

“This planned attack against Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement and undermine the significant progress achieved through mediation efforts,” the statement said.

While the State Department did not specify the nature of the alleged Hamas attack, the warning follows over a week of reports that Hamas operatives have executed dozens of members of rival clans and other Palestinians accused of collaborating with Israel.

“The guarantors demand Hamas uphold its obligations under the ceasefire terms,” the statement continued.

It remains unclear how internal attacks by Hamas on other Palestinians would directly violate the ceasefire, which primarily governs hostilities between Israel and Hamas. Leaked portions of the agreement do not explicitly address Hamas’s treatment of Gazan civilians.

Still, the U.S. cautioned that “should Hamas proceed with this attack, measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire.”

Earlier this week, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump said that the U.S. and Israel were working to establish safe zones inside IDF-controlled areas of Gaza to shelter Palestinians fleeing Hamas retribution. Israel has not publicly confirmed the initiative.

“The United States and the other guarantors remain resolute in our commitment to ensuring the safety of civilians, maintaining calm on the ground, and advancing peace and prosperity for the people of Gaza and the region as a whole,” the State Department added.
