A University of Washington team planned a secretive solar geoengineering experiment to dim sunlight by creating clouds over a 3,900-square-mile ocean area, funded by billionaire donors like Chris Larsen.

A smaller test on a retired aircraft carrier in Alameda, California, was canceled in June 2024 by city officials due to transparency concerns.
