Nine Israeli defense industries and startups showcased their capabilities to intercept and destroy drones using shooting and drone technology. The solutions that succeed in the test will move on to full development, funded by the Ministry of Defense.

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz participated yesterday in a series of operational trials to demonstrate capabilities for intercepting drones, following the first series of trials held in October 2024. This is part of the directive from the Director-General of the Ministry of Defense, Major General (Res.) Eyal Zamir, to conduct an accelerated competitive process to find interception solutions due to the ongoing threat.
The final trial day took place yesterday at a test field in southern Israel, conducted in an accelerated competitive format. Nine Israeli companies participated, including major players like Elbit Systems, Rafael, and Israel Aerospace Industries, as well as startups, all showcasing their advancements in developing technological solutions for drone interception.

As part of the competition, the industries presented prototypes of interception systems, developed under the leadership of Mafat (Israel’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development), and demonstrated the capability to intercept drones at various ranges, speeds, and altitudes. Following the analysis of the results of the current trials, the Ministry of Defense plans to select several technologies for accelerated development and production. The aim is to deploy new operational capabilities in the immediate future. CEOs from the industries, senior officials from the IDF, and the Ministry of Defense participated in the trial.

Defense Minister Katz said in a statement: “The drone threat is a developing and multi-front threat that has expanded to all of our combat zones led by Iran and its proxies. We are committed to continuing to advance and integrate new capabilities into the battlefield in the near future. We will act to ensure maximum protection for the citizens of our country and our forces on the ground against drones from Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, and any area where we are required to operate.”
