Mayor-elect Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani met privately on Wednesday with far-left Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, a quiet sit-down spotted by an office worker across the street from Mamdani’s headquarters.
Warren later boasted on Instagram about the gathering with Mamdani and Lina Khan, the Big Tech antagonist serving as co-chair of his transition team. “Tax the rich. Billionaire tears not pictured,” she wrote beneath a photo of the smiling trio.
The eagle-eyed New Yorker who photographed the meeting described seeing the pair “in deep debate” on Nov. 12, sharing the image on X.
By the next morning, the blinds in Mamdani’s office had been pulled shut, the same user noted in a follow-up post. The details of the conversation remain unknown.
Warren, a longtime critic of Wall Street, has previously praised Mamdani’s “steely” focus on affordability. Over the summer she hailed his sweeping pledges — free child care, transit, and rent freezes — as the real “Democratic message.”
She again posted the photo of the meeting on Instagram with the caption, “Tax the rich. Billionaire tears not pictured.”
Maria Danzilo, a former New York state Senate candidate, blasted Warren’s involvement, calling it an “obsession” with the incoming mayor. “This woman will not rest until she brings down America, starting with NYC. It’s bad enough we have [AOC] here,” she wrote on X, warning the city is “headed for anti-growth and a death spiral.”
Others voiced alarm at the growing parade of left-wing politicians surrounding Mamdani. “Welp Bernie said it. He wants to bring Mamdani politics all across the country,” one user wrote, referring to Sen. Bernie Sanders, who recently rallied with the mayor-elect.
“I don’t think her policies work for nyc,” another user said, while a third questioned Warren’s presence entirely: “She is a MA senator…why is she even there?”
