After Iran rejected President Donald Trump’s call to negotiate a nuclear agreement, the White House reiterated a stern warning to Tehran, saying that its only options are negotiations or military conflict.
“We hope the Iran Regime puts its people and best interests ahead of terror,” White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes said in a statement, after Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Tehran will not be “bullied” into negotiations.
The news comes as Trump reinstated the US’ “maximum pressure” approach to Iran sanctions, which crippled Tehran’s economy. The Biden Administration lifted some of these sanctions.
Last week, it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to be a mediator between the terror-sponsoring Islamic state and the US.
