TEHRAN – Iranian officials have yet to bury Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei weeks after his Feb. 28 assassination, citing security fears and instability during the ongoing war.
Experts said Tehran is avoiding a mass funeral due to risks of Israeli strikes, anti-regime unrest, and questions surrounding new leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not appeared publicly.
Reports said Iran is now considering burying Khamenei in Mashhad, a heavily secured religious city, instead of Tehran as the temporary U.S.-Iran truce remains in place.
