The world’s biggest cruise ship has officially launched on its inaugural voyage this weekend.
Royal Caribbean’s newest flagship, the Star of the Seas, set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, on Sunday, marking its first journey at sea.
The massive vessel boasts 20 decks and can carry an astonishing 5,000 passengers, according to the company’s website.
After leaving the Orlando-area port, the ship will cruise for seven nights with stops across both the eastern and western Caribbean. Destinations include San Juan, St. Kitts, Cozumel, and Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, CruiseMapper reported.
The floating mega-resort features an aquadome with a 55-foot waterfall.
Guests will also have access to 40 eateries, the largest waterpark at sea, laser tag, mini golf, and a rock climbing wall, according to the cruise line.
All this comes at a steep cost. Tickets begin at $951 per passenger, though many onboard activities are included in the price.
Cruise demand is booming despite the high fares, said Stewart Chiron, founder of The Cruise Guy, in an interview with GMA.
“There are more people booked for cruises into the future than any same time in history,” Chiron said Monday.
He added, “The demand is tremendous and people are going. The satisfaction rates are unbelievable and the future outlook with, especially with the new ships that are coming in, it’s gonna make it even more exciting.”
In fact, Chiron noted that in some areas cruise reservations are now surpassing hotel bookings.
